SorTex
Wargön Innovation, together with Herning Municipality and several other actors, has been granted funding for a three-year project from Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak to support the development of collection and sorting methods for more resource-efficient and commercial flows of textile waste. The project takes a holistic approach to the entire textile value chain and will work to develop the demand and marketing of collected textile waste and focus on collection methods that preserve the value of textiles, as well as efficient and scalable pre-sorting methods.
From 2025, textile waste will be collected separately and municipalities will be responsible for collection. Textiles are a circular resource with the potential to be reused or recycled, and it is therefore important that collection takes place in a way that does not risk destroying or lowering the value of the textiles. For the same reason, it is important that the collected textiles are sorted in a way that allows the potential of each textile to be utilized in the best way. Sorting also needs to be done in a way that is both efficient and scalable.
SorTex brings together actors from Denmark and Sweden, both from the public and private sector, and will identify ways to:
- effectively collect textile waste
- streamlining and scaling up the pre-sorting of textile waste
- developing demand for several fractions
- develop outlets for these fractions
The project is part of the Västra Götaland region's Textile Movement initiative.
