Circular Textile Innovations

The Circular Textile Innovations project will contribute to a circular, non-toxic and bio-based textile value chain in Sweden. The sub-projects focus on textile recycling technologies and innovative fiber blends and yarn spinning techniques for bio-based raw materials, thus contributing to the vision of a circular bioeconomy.

The project includes three major sub-projects and a unifying coordination project where Wargön Innovation is part of two sub-projects: Mechanical textile recycling - Roadmap for Swedish process capacity and Chemical recycling of regenerated fibers.

Mechanical textile recycling - Roadmap for Swedish process capacity

The subproject Mechanical textile recycling - Roadmap for Swedish process capacity will develop a roadmap that will contribute to a well-functioning circular ecosystem for textile waste and reduced use of fossil raw materials. In the pre-projects, a commercial-scale textile shredding plant has been identified as an important piece of the puzzle for more efficient resource utilization of the textile waste stream. The subproject will therefore investigate the conditions for establishing a Swedish commercial textile shredding plant with a view to establishing a pilot or demo plant.

Chemical recycling of regenerated fibers (MMCF)

The Chemical Recycling of Regenerated Fibers (MMCF) sub-project studies sorting technology, dye handling and different recycling processes. MMCF stands for Man-Made Cellulose Fibers. The aim is to investigate how the fibers can be included in circular non-toxic flows. The result could be that the fibers become new textile fibers, packaging or chemical building blocks.
