This project will test new business models and collection systems for textiles. Sweden's first pre-sorting facility will be put into operation and steps to make reuse more efficient will be tested. The aim is to increase the lifetime of clothes and reduce resource use, leading to less waste and safer products.
The challenges in the textile and fashion industry extend along the entire value chain from the design phase to production with high water consumption and consumption. At the consumer level, with an increasing trend of short wear times for clothes, many clothes are thrown into household waste and incinerated. Changes are needed along the entire value chain.
In a previous feasibility study, stakeholders agreed on a mission statement describing a desired new situation and prioritized a number of areas for change. In this project, solutions will be demonstrated in reality. The uniqueness of the initiative is that the entire textile value chain is included, from design and production to collection, sorting, reuse and recycling. The aim is to explore how technological innovation, business models, policies, behaviors and infrastructure need to evolve for a systemic change.
Together with several actors, who together have the potential to meet key challenges in the textile system, solutions are made visible that contribute to a more sustainable textile system. Through the demonstrator, we test new business models and new collection systems in society. Sweden's first pre-sorting facility will be put into operation and tested, and process steps to streamline reuse processes will be tested. The aim is to increase the lifetime of clothes and reduce resource use, leading to less waste and safer products. Overall, this aims to establish profitable and scalable circular business models for a sustainable textile sector.
