The idea of S by Isabelle is to create unique, handmade denim products made from old jeans, with the aim of leaving no waste material from the production. The small pieces of fabric left over from production are used to make accessories of various kinds.

Using existing materials and giving them new life reduces the environmental impact. What started as a backpack and fishing hat made from a pair of broken jeans has now evolved into entire collections of new garments made from discarded jeans.

Part of the process of utilizing all available material on a pair of jeans means that all seams need to be cut open in order to utilize the seam allowance. This is a very time-consuming task and an obstacle to scaling up production and becoming cost-effective. In collaboration with Wargön Innovation, the possibilities for automation of dismantling are investigated with the question: How to streamline and automate cutting and dismantling and still keep the seam allowance intact?

Wargön Innovation also helps S by Isabelle with the sorting of jeans and chinos that become part of the test material.

S by Isabelle is supported by Wargön Innovation through the project Innovation Environment for Sustainable Production and Circular Flows, a project funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Region Västra Götaland, the Municipality of Vänersborg and Fyrbodal Municipal Association.
